New Jersey Devils Info

No team in the NHL has been more dominant in the last ten years than the New Jersey Devils. Including last year's Stanley Cup, the Devils have claimed three championships out of their four appearances in the Stanley Cup Finals since 1995.

Pat Burns takes over a Devils team with high expectations. Patrik Elias has emerged as a league superstar. Future hall of famers Martin Brodeur and Scott Stevens return for another season.

Playing in the tough Atlantic Division is difficult for any franchise this year, but look out for the Devils as the season progresses. Anticipate seeing the Devils come playoff time.

ALL-TIME RECORD 819-1087-316-18

March 23, 2004 - With a 4-3 win over the Florida Panthers, Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur becomes the eighth player in NHL history to win 400 games, and the youngest to do so, both in terms of age (31 years, 322 days) and games played (735). Furthermore, Brodeur is the first goalie to accomplish the feat while playing every game with the same team.

June 9, 2003 - The New Jersey Devils capture their third Stanley Cup, defeating the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in Game 7, 3-0. Martin Brodeur made 24 saves for the shutout, and Mike Rupp scored one goal and assisted on the other two. The Devils had home-ice advantage and needed every game of it, winning all four games in Continental Airlines Arena.

New Jersey Devils Team Notes
Arena: Continental Airlines Arena
Stanley Cup Wins: 1995, 2000, 2003
Head Coach: Pat Burns
2002-2003 Season Finish: 108 points, 1st - Atlantic Division

The Devils cruised through last seasonís playoffs. New Jersey ousted the Mighty Ducks in seven games to capture the Stanley Cup for the third time since 1995. The franchise is slowly developing into a legitimate dynasty, and another Cup this year would clinch it for them. But New Jersey has had a devil of a time moving toward that next Cup. Entering the playoffs as the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, the Devils are playing the unfamiliar role of underdog. Thankfully, New Jersey has goalie Martin Brodeur. Brodeur reigns as the best goaltender in the NHL with the retirement of Patrick Roy. Last season, the Devil goalie won the Vezina Trophy and posted the best numbers of his career. Brodeur can definitely right the ship. Up front, the Devils have a fairly balanced attack with the resurgent Jeff Friesen, Patrick Elias, Jamie Langenbrunner and Scott Gomez. Donít forget that John Madden and Sergei Brylin are a threat on both ends of the ice on the penalty kill. New Jersey also boasts a rock-solid blue line corps of Scott Niedermayer, Colin White, and Brian Rafalski back. Will the Devils torture teams on their way to another cup? We shall see.
